"Over the last weeks, Mum and I had time to talk, tell each other the things we wanted and needed to say, and to also make plans. If you knew my mum, you will know how incredibly organised and thoughtful she was, thinking of every little thing, be it for a friend going through a hard time, or a dinner party. One of these discussions led us to agree that she did not want flowers at her funeral, instead asking friends and family to donate any money they would have spent to the Phyllis Tuckwell Memorial Hospice (PTH). Mum had been in hospital for over 14 weeks, and when we were told that she had an incredibly rare form of cancer, which could not be treated. The only moment of joy was to learn that she had been given a place at the PTH. The care, help and support of the amazing staff and volunteers at the PTH cannot be put into words. They made mum's final days as comfortable and pain free, enjoyable and reassuring as they possibly could. They were the light at the end of a long, dark tunnel, and the work they do is invaluable to the patients, families and friends of their in-patients. They were a blessing to my mum. Mum and I would like to be able to help give that same joy to others who are facing hard and painful times. More information about the PTH can be found here - http://www.pth.org.uk.
